1978 - 1979

September : Mrs Maxwell joined our staff today.

Over 50 of our pupils grew sunflowers for Action Cancer and £220 was handed to the organisers. Fiona McAuley raised the highest amount.

Thanks to Mr. Wright, Primary Seven have acquired two classroom pets!

A band of mothers made new curtains for the school. P.7 wrote to thank them.

Festival Painting

Clive Todd was invited to Queen’s Festival House on Nov. 11th to receive a prize in the painting competition.

On October 23 the first of two eggs was laid in P7’s nesting box.

Andrew McDuff, Ellis Martin and Hayden Smith played in the trails for Larne representative team. Ellis was chosen for the team.

On December 1st P7 was invited to contribute carols to the P.A.C.E. Christmas Concert.

In January P7 acquired two gerbils. They were named Cythia and Cyril.

Feb 13th P.5, 6, 7 went to a performance by the Northern Black Light Theatre Co. The play was called Totem.

Gillian McConnell won a transistor radio for 2nd place.

Monday 12 March

Our new kitchen opened. The P.A. held an Irish Night and P.6 and P.7 entertained parents.

Mrs Wright joined our staff on April 2nd. We presented a fire and jewel box to Mrs Snoddy to mark her retirement.

The new reached us that Mrs Barr has a bay son – 4.4.79. Mrs Barr is our peripatetic readingteacher.

Five-a-Side

Our boys retained the runners-up shield in the five-a-side competition. April 79.

P.6 went to visit the Mayor on May 23rd.

P.6 and P7 went to visit Shane’s Castle Farm and were eaten alive by flies while travelling on the steam railway!

Sonia Morris won a Silver Medal at Larne Technical College sports.

P7 pupils prepared a reception for their parents.

Mrs Calverley left her job as school secretary at the end of term. Mrs McAuley will be taking over in September.

Fifteen pupils from P.7 gained the Cycling Proficiency Certificate.
