1977 - 1978

We started the New Year in school with a new teacher – Mrs Carig – who took over P.6

P 4 – 7 collected £155 for the N.S.P.C.C.

John Rainey won a bronze medal in the Road Race.

The photographer came to school in November.

Overall Winner – Moya

P.7 presented “This Is Your Life, Joseph,” in Gardenmore Church on Sunday 18th December, at morning service. John Rainey was the presenter and Andrew McConnell was Joseph the Carpenter.

Ulster School Swimming Championship

Stephanie Maguire won a third place pennant in the Breast Stroke event.

A design competition for the front of the P.A. scrap book was won by Stephen Liddle and John Rainey. The runners-up are shown here. (old school – A. McConnell, new school – E, Morris)

On March 1st Mrs Calverley joined us as school secretary.

Mrs Craig and her class took their play to the Drama Festival and won the Antrim Cup. On 22nd March they went to visit the McNeill Hall Playgroup.

P4, 5 and 6 went to Larne Technical College for a performance by the Lambert Puppets.

Mrs Andrews started off Hockey Coaching this year. P.7 girls took part in the Hockey Tournament held in Sandy Bay on May 16th.

Mr Gilpin, Mr Haskins and Mr. McAdoo visited our school in connection with the R.E. programme.

In May, the contractors moved in to build our new kitchen.

On June 28 we said goodbye to Mrs Smyth who is going to live in Coleraine. She was presented with a “Deep Fryer” and bouquet by William Campbell.

We left school in the hands of the builders who are working on our new kitchen (started 1.6.78)
