Money Week in Yr7
23rd Jan 2026
This week, our Year 7 pupils focused on budgeting and developing essential real-life money skills. They explored payslips, learning about tax and other deductions taken from monthly pay, and discussed the importance of prioritising needs before spending money on wants.
Pupils were given a set budget to design and decorate a bedroom, an engaging activity that brought budgeting concepts to life and encouraged thoughtful decision-making. Linking their learning to our Victorian topic, they also examined historical coins that would have been used during that era, comparing past and present currency.
The week continued with valuable opportunities beyond the classroom. Year 7 pupils accompanied our Year 1 children to the local shop, supporting them as they bought a treat and practised handling money. To round off a fantastic week, pupils visited our local ASDA, where they experienced first-hand how to shop sensibly while sticking to a budget.
It has been a week full of practical, meaningful learning experiences that have helped pupils understand the value of money and the importance of making informed financial choices.
