From Ghost Dog to Global Warming: Our October Learning Journey

October has been a month full of hard work, thoughtful discussions and plenty of opportunities to build on our learning in P6.

In Literacy, we finished our class novel, Ghost Dog, and enjoyed reflecting on Daniel's journey throughout the story. The class had some fantastic conversations about how he changed and developed as a character from beginning to end. We also began preparing for our reports on global warming. Through lots of discussion, idea-sharing and what we like to call a bit of "idea pinching", the pupils helped one another to improve their writing and discover new ways to present their information.

Our Eco-Warriors topic continued to keep us busy as we explored different types of pollution and considered the impact they have on our world. We also became recycling experts, learning more about how to sort waste correctly and the small changes we can make to help protect our environment. To top it all off, we enjoyed a visit from the Wastebusters team, whose lively whole-school performance reinforced many of the important environmental messages we have been learning about in class.

In Numeracy, we continued to strengthen our core mathematical skills. We investigated different types of triangles, learned how to identify obtuse and reflex angles, tackled a variety of problem-solving challenges and developed our understanding of coordinates by plotting and identifying points on grids. The pupils have shown great resilience and determination as they have worked through some tricky concepts, and it has been wonderful to see their confidence continue to grow.

While October was certainly more focused on classroom learning than special events, it was a month packed with meaningful learning experiences. The pupils have worked incredibly hard, supported one another along the way and should be very proud of everything they have achieved. We are looking forward to seeing what November has in store!
