It has been an incredibly busy and exciting few weeks in our classroom. The children have embraced new challenges across the curriculum and have been working hard to develop a variety of new skills.
Here is a look at what we have been up to during this jam-packed month!
PE with Ulster Rugby
One of the highlights of October was welcoming the coaches from Ulster Rugby into our school for our PE sessions, organised through the Sport 4 Peace Programme. The children had a fantastic time learning different sports skills through brilliant, high-energy games and developing their teamwork. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another and having fun while staying active!
Stepping Inside 'The Snow Maze'
In Language and Literacy, we have thoroughly enjoyed our class novel, 'The Snow Maze' by Jan Mark. The book has captured the childrenβs imaginations, sparked wonderful discussions, and inspired fantastic drama activities. To explore the characters more deeply, the children took part in hot seating activities. We stepped into the shoes of the characters and were interviewed by the rest of the class, who developed some incredibly thought-provoking questions! We also worked on building freeze frames to visually recreate key scenes from the story, focusing on how body language and facial expressions can show a character's true feelings.
Shaping Up in Numeracy
It has been a hands-on month for Numeracy as we focused on the properties of 3D shapes. We took a practical approach to our learning, allowing the children to handle and sort shapes using Carroll, Venn, and Tree diagrams to master concepts like faces, edges, and vertices. To further embed our knowledge we used Mathletics to deepen our knowledge and test our understanding.
To round off October, Year 4 headed outside for a Forest School session. Linked to our literacy focus on writing instructions, the children gathered natural ingredients to create their own magical potions. They then delivered clear, step-by-step instructions to the rest of the class on exactly how their concoctions were made!
It has been a great month full of learning, teamwork, and creativityβwell done, Year 4!
