September in Year 4
September has flown by, and Year 4 has been incredibly busy settling into their new routines, making memories and diving straight into their learning. Here is a look at what we have been up to over the last few weeks!
Mighty Me!
Our topic this term is ‘Mighty Me,’ which has been all about celebrating who we are and understanding what makes us unique. We kicked things off by drawing some brilliant self-portraits and spent time learning about our ‘class family’ and how we can support one another this year. We also used ‘The Good Morning Club’ resources to explore our emotions and how to manage them. As part of this, the children wrote beautiful poems about happiness, using their five senses to describe what being happy feels, smells, looks, sounds and tastes like!
Numbers, Problems and Measurements.
In numeracy, we have been working hard on our number confidence by exploring the 100 square and developing our quick recall facts. To make things even more exciting, we used the Izak9 cubes to collaborate and solve tricky number problems together- there was so much energy and teamwork in the room! We took a step back in time to explore how people used to measure things before rulers existed. The children had a fantastic time using their forearms, handspans and fingers to measure different items around the classroom.
A Special Trip to the Harbour
A big highlight of our month was celebrating Global Safety Day with a school trip down to the harbour. It was a fantastic afternoon out and the children learned some invaluable, real-world lessons about how to stay safe around water and in the community.
We are so proud of how well Year 4 have adapted to their new classroom. They have brought so much enthusiasm to every lesson and we cannot wait to see what they achieve in October!
