October: Football & Food in Year 7.

As September turned into October, the Year 7 routine became well embedded and our learning was in full swing!

In Numeracy, we focused on data handling, area, and converting quantities for some delicious recipes. We put our mathematical skills to good use when measuring and adjusting ingredients, helping us prepare some tasty treats later in the month.

During Literacy, we continued to develop our spelling and grammar skills. We explored syllables, sentence structure, verb tenses and biography writing, building our confidence as readers and writers.

A highlight of the month was our visit to Windsor Park Stadium. We learned about the history of football in Northern Ireland and even had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be pitch-side. It was an exciting way to bring our topic learning to life.

Our topic work then took a seriously tasty turn with a food tour of Northern Ireland. We sampled and made a range of traditional Northern Irish foods. Veda received a definite thumbs up from the class, while we agreed that dulse is certainly an acquired taste! Making potato bread and fifteens was a particular highlight. We used our maths skills to convert measurements and our taste buds to enjoy the delicious results.

Our journey through The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe continued as we debated an important question: can Edmund be forgiven for his betrayal, or must he face the consequences of his actions? The class enjoyed sharing their opinions and supporting them with evidence from the text.

We rounded off the month with even more food as we toasted marshmallows alongside our Year 1/2 Forest School Buddies. We also enjoyed dressing up and taking notice on High Five Friday, ending the month on a positive and memorable note.

We are already looking forward to seeing what the next month brings!
