Y7 Have Had a Busy Start to the Year!
September has been a busy and exciting month in Y7 as we settled back into school and began exploring lots of new learning opportunities.
In Numeracy, we have been revising and extending our understanding of place value and investigating a variety of number patterns. We have also been developing our knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes by exploring their properties, symmetry, nets and different types of lines. As part of our Data Handling work, we collected, organised and interpreted information using a range of charts and graphs.
Our World Around Us topic, Northern Ireland, has officially begun and we have enjoyed making links across many areas of the curriculum. We listened to Seamus Heaney's famous poem Blackberry-Picking, before heading outdoors to pick our own blackberries. We then used the berries to create artwork and worked together to write our own class poem inspired by Heaney's work.
In Literacy, we have started reading our class novel, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. We learned about the Northern Ireland connection through author C.S. Lewis and even had the opportunity to taste Turkish Delight, just like Edmund in the story!
One of the highlights of our month has been becoming Forest School buddies for the Year 1/2 children. We have loved getting to know our younger buddies and helping them explore, learn and play outdoors. It has been wonderful to see new friendships forming and we are looking forward to many more shared Forest School sessions throughout the year.
